Sakai 2.5 Release Timeline

Timeline Tasklist
Immediate Create subversion branch and install code on a dev server.
Start testing database conversion scripts.
Draw up a schedule for the semester.
Skin new version according to new design
Mid-term Update documentation and Help (edit Webdav instructions)  week of 4/14
Tool development and code customization. migration progress  target: week of 4/21
Review Open Issues and Feature wish list, compare to 2.5  week of 4/21
Do role testing week of  5/4
Notify SOM, EPH, Nursing of planned outage dates (5/28, 29) week 5/4
Review Sakai Jira for any fixes we may want to apply  by 5/14? 
Design new My Workspace page  week of 5/11

General project management tasks

  • Create a 2.5 subversion branch for local Yale development ( https://sakai21-dev.its.yale.edu/svn/sakai/branches/2-3)
  • Creation of a local 2.5 test instance ( https://sakai22-nightly.its.yale.edu)
  • Testing of 2.5 client on local and Sakai QA servers
  • Evaluate new tools and decide which tools to include from contrib and which tools to stealth
  • Examination/customization of database conversion scripts
  • Need to set date for code freeze, absolute patch date, release date based on end of Spring term (May 15), beginning of Summer term (June 2?)

Yale-specific customizations

  • Investigate new skins in Sakai 2.5, customize for Yale environment
  • Evaluate help tool and customize if necessary
  • Port Yale-developed tools to 2.5

    • cdigix/clabs
    • syllabusbrowse

  • Review new Course Management APIs and how this will be used with the Banner implementation, sections, etc.
  • Re-edit Help, Tip Sheets (new screen shots)

Spring break:  March 7-24 (patches applied March 12)

End of Spring term:  May 13 (SOM: May 14)

Commencement:  May 26 

Spring grades due:  (Term grades for the spring term are due at the Registrar's Office seven days after the end of final examination period; in 2007-2008, this date is May 20, 2008. In the spring term, grades are due for seniors within forty-eight hours of the end of final examination period; in 2007-2008, this date is May 15, 2008.Do not know about SOM, EPH, etc.)

Start of summer term:
        Nursing School: May 19  Session A; 10-week and 8-week SLI: June 2 Session B: July 7 ELI: June 30

End of summer term:
       Nursing School:  July 25  Session A: July 4   8-week SLI: July 25 Session B; 10-week and ELI: Aug 8

Start of Fall 08 term:  Sept 3
