Using CAS through web service

Hello,
I have just started using CAS. I tested the cas.war and it works fine. Now I 
would like to the following:
I have a standalone desktop application. I would like this application to 
get a ticket from CAS server. Is this possible? It is not a web-based 
application so how will this be done ? Will there be some web service which 
I can talk too.
