CAS Server 3.1 RC1 install

Hi,

I want to install RC1 using the source downloaded from 
http://www.ja-sig.org/downloads/cas/cas-server-3.1-rc1-release.tar.gz

I'm new to CAS and Maven, but I want to try a proof of concept with 
Google Apps - SAML - CAS. The new 'Google Accounts Support' is why I'm 
not using the stable release.

I've successfully installed and used 'ant war' with the 3.0.7 release 
but the installation instructions are incorrect for this source release. 
Please can somebody jot down a few points to get me started.
