CAS server clients vs application clients

We've always used the application-level CAS clients (i.e. PL/SQL and Java),
mostly because our developers were more familiar with the application-level
clients (i.e. the Java developer understood the Java client).  It also
allows us to associate more information with the application.

There are advantages to using the server-level clients in that all of your
security is configured in one place, making auditing and updating easier
(but basically removing the developer from the loop about the security
configuration).  Maybe someone who uses the server-level ones can comment
more.
