phpCAS error

We are trying to use the phpCAS client to authenticate against our cas installation. The error we get is:
Warning: DOMDocument::loadXML() [function.DOMDocument-loadXML<http://localhost/cas/function.DOMDocument-loadXML>]: Empty string supplied as input in C:\apache2.2\htdocs\cas\CAS\domxml-php4-php5.php on line 43
And the bottom of the page says
phpCAS 0.5.1-1 using server https://cas-stg.byu.edu/cas/login:443/ (CAS 2.0)
which leads me to believe that the client code is putting the port number even though it is 443 and shouldn't be added.
Ideas?
