I don't see why it wouldn't give a response unless there's a problem in the
CAS 1.0 validation filter. Can you try using the 2.0 one?  If that doesn't
work then there may be something misconfigured with regards to the CAS
urls.  If it does work, then it may just be a bug in the 1.0 filter.
