I also found this on the mod_authz_ldap website:

But this does not work either: 401 error

"Authorization Required

This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the 
document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad 
password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the 
credentials required."

Still the same message in apache log:

"[Mon Jun 02 17:05:42 2008] [error] [client 172.16.48.21] [9686] no 
password?"
